The quantity and quality of safety alerts generated by computerized prescriber order entry (CPOE) systems is often problematic. Our guest speaker, Eric Pifer, MD, Chief Medical Informatics Officer at the University of Pennsylvania, will discuss how to best use safety alerts and order sets to augment decision making when prescribing drugs. Peter Kilbridge, MD, Associate Chief Information Officer for Patient Safety and Clinical Effectiveness at Duke University will moderate and discuss the Leapfrog initiative for evaluating hospital CPOE systems.
